Interior decorator wows TikTok with DIY headboard made from pool noodles

May 25, 2023

Pool noodles are fast becoming one of the most versatile home items out there. Along with their original function in the water, pool noodles are being used to store fishing rods and to help keep the shape of tall boots.

Now the affordable tubes have been used to create a stunning headboard, which interior decorator Bridgette showed off in a TikTok clip that has gone viral with 2,000,000 views.

The American called her velvet green bedhead DIY her "most iconic creation". It was also probably one of her most affordable too as it cost US$75 to make.

Bridgette showed how to make the pool noodle DIY in response to fan requests for a tutorial in a separate clip on her @itsbridgettebitch TikTok page. The steps seem pretty easy and doable for anyone at home, just a little fiddly.

To make the arched shaped headboard you'll need 35 to 40 pool noodles, a staple gun, fabric, plywood and duct tape.

Starting with a rectangle plywood base that is the same width as your bed, Bridgette arranged the pool noodles on the base in an arch and secured with duct tape.

Bridgette then used a staple gun to staple through the hole in the bottom of the pool noodles to attach it more securely to the base board.

After that she got her fabric and stuck it into the cracks between the pool noodles and staple gunned it to the base board.

Bridgette's boyfriend then cut off excess board from around the arch shape with a jigsaw. Once that was done they continued attaching the fabric to the pool noodles.

The finished headboard was placed behind Bridgette's bed.

"I don't know if anyone can tell but I actually have a headboard that came with the bed frame originally. It's black metal and I like that because if someone is sleeping on it it would suck for them to tear the actual fabric. I just put pillows up against it so you can't really tell that there's an actual headboard there," she said.

It seems this headboard project was so successful Bridgette has done another pool noodle headboard in a different bedroom. This time she laid several pool noodles horizontally and covered it in a mustard coloured fabric.

"I will never buy a headboard again," Bridgette captioned a reposted TikTok video of the green headboard.

Bridgette's followers loved the idea and praised her for her creativity.

"How do people's brains just think 'Oh I'll make a head board out of noodles and it's going to look great?' I am so jealous…" one posted in the comments.

"I'm buying all the tools and equipment. I'm going to DIY this ASAP!" another wrote.

"I went and bought a ton of noodles and my husband said absolutely not. But I still love the look! I'm gonna go get more," a follower said.
